PREMATURE WRINKLES/AGING-CAUSES AND PREVENTION!

Premature wrinkles/aging  is when your skin undergoes an unnatural aging process, such as with extreme sun exposure or living with an unhealthy lifestyle.  There are other reasons your skin may age prematurely. Some people have medical conditions or are taking medications that age their skin.  COMMON CAUSES OF PREMATURE WRINKLES One of the biggest mistakes many people make is to disrupt the delicate skin around their eyes. Rubbing and pulling the skin in this area can cause darkness. Be sure to get enough sleep each night. Your skin renews and repairs itself while you sleep and this can’t happen if you’re lacking the sleep your body needs. Sleeping on your side isn’t good for your skin. It can break your facial skin down, which eventually are causes of wrinkles . Pursing your lips can also cause lip wrinkles . We purse our lips when we drink out of straws and when we smoke. Speaking of which, the chemicals in tobacco cigarettes can also prematurely age your ski...

HOW MUCH BLOOD IS PUMPED BY THE HEART EACH DAY?

Your heart beats 101,000 times a day. During your lifetime it will beat about three billion times and pump about 800 million pints of blood or about one million barrels -that’s enough to fill more than 3 super tankers. The adult heart pumps about five quarts of blood each minute – approximately 2,000 gallons of blood each day – throughout the body.  A typical athlete’s heart churns out up to eight gallons of blood per minute.     Blood Pumping Procedure The  deoxygenated blood  is collected from all parts of the body by the  right atrium . This deoxygenated blood is pushed into the lungs by the right ventricle. This takes place by the  Pulmonary Artery . The oxygenated blood is collected from the lungs by the left atrium. The  oxygenated blood  is pumped to all body parts by the left ventricle. This is carried out by the  Aorta . The filling up and emptying of the left side and the right side occurs in unison. The same...

FACTS ABOUT BLOOD YOU MUST KNOW.

Blood makes up around 7% of the weight of a human body. Blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. These blood cells float in a yellow liquid called blood plasma. Blood plasma is made up of 90% water and also contains various nutrients, electrolytes, gases, proteins, glucose and hormones. Blood plasma can be separated from the cells by spinning blood in a device known as a centrifuge until the cells collect at the bottom of the tube. Red blood cells have the important job of carrying oxygen around the body. They also contain a protein called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin contains iron which combines with oxygen to give hemoglobin and our blood, a red color. Red blood cells develop in bone marrow and circulate in the body for around 120 days. White blood cells are an important part of the body’s immune system. They defend against certain bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, infectious diseases and other unwanted materials. Platelets help blood clo...

HALITOSIS (BAD BREATH), WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW!

Bad breath, medically known as HALITOSIS, can result from poor dental health habits and may be a sign of other health problems. Bad breath  can also be made worse by the types of foods you eat and other unhealthy lifestyle habits. when it comes to what you eat,  all the food eaten begins to be broken down in your mouth .  If you eat foods with strong odors (such as garlic or onions), brushing and flossing -- even mouthwash -- merely covers up the odor temporarily. The odor will not go away completely until the foods have passed through your body.    If you don't brush and floss  teeth   daily, food particles can remain in your  mouth , promoting bacterial growth between teeth , around the gums, and on the   tongue. This causes bad breath .   Antibacterial  mouth   rinses also can help reduce bacteria.    In addition, odor-causing bacteria and food particles can cause bad breath if de...

Hypertension: Causes.

Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the walls of blood vessels, and the magnitude of this force depends on the cardiac output and the resistance of the blood vessels.   Hypertension is defined as having a blood pressure higher than 140 over 90 mmHg, with a consensus across medical guidelines. This means the systolic reading (the pressure as the heart pumps blood around the body) is over 140 mmHg (millimeters of mercury) and/or the diastolic reading (as the heart relaxes and refills with blood) is over 90 mmHg. Normal blood pressure is below  120  systolic and below  80  diastolic Prehypertension is  120-139  systolic  or   80-89  diastolic Stage 1 high blood pressure (hypertension) is  140-159  systolic  or   90-99  diastolic Stage 2 high blood pressure (hypertension) is  160  or higher systolic  or   100  or higher diastolic Hypertensive crisis (a medical...

10 HABITS THAT CAN DAMAGE YOUR LIVER

The liver is the largest organ in the human body. It carries out aver 500 vital functions that supports life. Some of such functions are, detoxification (removal of toxins), metabolism, storage of nutrients, digestion and so on. The liver is richly supplied with blood vessels.   So many people think that the only thing that pose risk to the liver is heavy alcohol consumption, but medically, there are many other habits that can damage a liver.      10   HABITS THAT CAN DAMAGE A LIVER  1. ALCOHOL :  It is known that alcohol is bad for your liver. When you drink alcohol, the liver gets diverted from its other functions and focuses mainly on converting alcohol to a less toxic form. Absorption of alcohol by the liver causes fatty liver disease, inflammation of the liver and cirrhosis. 2. OBESITY  :  People who are obese have excess amount of body fat which tends to accumulate around the liver, causi...

TYPHOID - causes and symptoms.

Typhoid is a common bacterial infection caused by salmonella typhi. Typhoid is usually accompanied by malaria parasite(MP). This bacteria lives in the intestine and blood stream of humans. Typhoid can be spread from human to human due to direct contact with the feaces of infected persons.    The bacteria are deposited in water or food by a human carrier and are then spread to other people in the area .  From the bloodstream this bacteria gets to the tissues and organs .                 SYMPTOMS OF TYPHOID      The major symptoms of typhoid infection are fever and rash. Typhoid fever most often reaches 104 degrees Fahrenheit.   Other symptoms can include weakness, abdominal pain,  constipation   and headaches; rarely, symptoms might include confusion, diarrhea ,  and vomiting (but not normally severe). In serious, untreated cases, the bowel can become perforated; this can...

MOSQUITOES AND MALERIA- WHAT YOU MUST KNOW!

Malaria is caused by a one-celled parasite called a Plasmodium . Female  Anopheles  mosquitoes pick up the parasite from infected people when they bite to obtain blood needed to nurture their eggs. Inside the mosquito the parasites reproduce and develop.  When the mosquito bites again, the parasites contained in the salivary gland are injected and pass into the blood of the person being bitten. Malaria parasites multiply rapidly in the liver and then in red blood cells of the infected person. One to two weeks after a person is infected the first symptoms of malaria appear: usually fever, headache, chills and vomiting. If not treated promptly with effective medicines, malaria can kill by infecting and destroying red blood cells and by clogging the capillaries that carry blood to the brain or other vital organs. In recent years, some human cases of malaria have also occurred with  Plasmodium knowlesi  – a species that causes malaria among monkeys and ...

Diabetes—Can You Reduce Your Risk?

Diabetes—Can You Reduce Your Risk? Courtesy : AWAKE! THE incidence of diabetes mellitus is increasing so quickly that it has become a global epidemic. There are two major types of diabetes.
