HAND HYGIENE- WHY SO IMPORTANT

Good hand hygiene is the most effective way to stop infections spreading. Many infections, such as the common cold and the flu, are caused by spreading germs from person to person. Even when your hands look clean they can still be carrying germs. This is because they are so small that you just can’t see them. This is why when we touch other people or objects we can spread germs without even realizing it. When to wash your hands You should wash your hands properly and often, especially: before, during and after preparing food after going to the toilet or changing a nappy after you blow your nose, sneeze or cough when your hands are visibly dirty after smoking after handling or patting animals before and after taking care of someone who is sick when you enter and leave a healthcare facility. HOW MUCH BLOOD IS PUMPED BY THE HEART EACH DAY?

Your heart beats 101,000 times a day. During your lifetime it will beat about three billion times and pump about 800 million pints of blood or about one million barrels -that’s enough to fill more than 3 super tankers. The adult heart pumps about five quarts of blood each minute – approximately 2,000 gallons of blood each day – throughout the body.  A typical athlete’s heart churns out up to eight gallons of blood per minute.     Blood Pumping Procedure The  deoxygenated blood  is collected from all parts of the body by the  right atrium . This deoxygenated blood is pushed into the lungs by the right ventricle. This takes place by the  Pulmonary Artery . The oxygenated blood is collected from the lungs by the left atrium. The  oxygenated blood  is pumped to all body parts by the left ventricle. This is carried out by the  Aorta . The filling up and emptying of the left side and the right side occurs in unison. FACTS ABOUT BLOOD YOU MUST KNOW.

Blood makes up around 7% of the weight of a human body. Blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. These blood cells float in a yellow liquid called blood plasma. Blood plasma is made up of 90% water and also contains various nutrients, electrolytes, gases, proteins, glucose and hormones. Blood plasma can be separated from the cells by spinning blood in a device known as a centrifuge until the cells collect at the bottom of the tube. Red blood cells have the important job of carrying oxygen around the body. They also contain a protein called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin contains iron which combines with oxygen to give hemoglobin and our blood, a red color. Red blood cells develop in bone marrow and circulate in the body for around 120 days. White blood cells are an important part of the body’s immune system. They defend against certain bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, infectious diseases and other unwanted materials. Platelets help blood clo...

Bad breath, medically known as HALITOSIS, can result from poor dental health habits and may be a sign of other health problems. Bad breath  can also be made worse by the types of foods you eat and other unhealthy lifestyle habits. when it comes to what you eat,  all the food eaten begins to be broken down in your mouth .  If you eat foods with strong odors (such as garlic or onions), brushing and flossing -- even mouthwash -- merely covers up the odor temporarily. The odor will not go away completely until the foods have passed through your body.    If you don't brush and floss  teeth   daily, food particles can remain in your  mouth , promoting bacterial growth between teeth , around the gums, and on the   tongue. This causes bad breath .   Antibacterial  mouth   rinses also can help reduce bacteria.    In addition, odor-causing bacteria and food particles can cause bad breath if de...
